2027 Asset Management / Research Summer Internship | Davenport & Company LLC

The Tone:
This is a 2027 summer internship at Davenport & Company LLC, located at the firm’s Richmond, VA headquarters. Davenport & Company is a well-established and 100 percent employee-owned financial services firm, operating across 25 locations in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Maryland, and supported by more than 500 associates, including 200 Financial Advisors. The company builds comprehensive financial solutions, offering a wide spectrum of investment services for individuals, corporations, institutions, and municipalities, such as stock and bond brokerage, investment management, research, financial planning, insurance, public finance, and corporate finance services. This internship is crucial for immersing rising college Juniors or Seniors into the core analytical functions of investment research and asset management, directly contributing to the firm’s ability to provide robust financial guidance and manage significant assets for its diverse client base. The role supports senior analysts in both Davenport Asset Management, which oversees over $10 billion in assets, and Davenport Equity Research, which provides fundamental analysis on hundreds of stocks, thereby playing a part in the firm’s commitment to its clients and its active participation in the New York Stock Exchange, FINRA, and other key industry associations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Investment Research: Actively engage in comprehensive investment research, contributing to the development of strategies for Davenport Asset Management and supporting the in-depth fundamental analysis conducted by Davenport Equity Research on individual stocks.
• Financial Modeling: Provide direct support to senior analysts by constructing and maintaining financial models, which are essential for evaluating potential investments and forecasting market trends across various asset classes.
• Report Writing: Collaborate with senior analysts in drafting and editing detailed investment reports, ensuring that complex financial information and research findings are communicated clearly and effectively to a wide range of stakeholders, including financial advisors.
• Fundamental Analysis: Perform rigorous fundamental analysis on a diverse portfolio of individual stocks, generating insights and contributing data that enhances the analytical resources available to the firm’s 200+ financial advisors.
• Departmental Exposure: Immerse in and gain valuable, hands-on experience and understanding of the operational intricacies and strategic approaches employed within both the Davenport Asset Management and Davenport Equity Research departments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a rising college Junior or Senior with a strong academic background in Finance or Economics.
• Experience: Demonstrated interest in investment research and investment management principles.
• Skills: Possess strong analytical capabilities, proficiency in Excel, and superior writing skills for clear communication.
