AI and Automation Intern | United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS)

The Tone:
This is a full-time, in-person internship with the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). UNDSS is a global leader in security risk management, dedicated to enabling safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities worldwide. This role supports the Operational Resilience Section (ORS) by generating data-driven analyses and insights, which are crucial for informed decision-making and enhancing the Department’s overall resilience through new ideas and solutions.

The TL;DR

• Team: Operational Resilience Section (ORS), supervised by a staff member.
• Mission: Generate and communicate data-driven analyses and insights to support informed decision-making processes and enhance the Department’s operational resilience.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop AI Solutions: Design, develop, test, and deploy agentic AI solutions leveraging Microsoft Copilot Studio, using low-code/no-code methodologies.
• Integrate Systems: Integrate Copilot Studio solutions with existing enterprise systems through the Power Platform and related technologies.
• Automate Processes: Design, develop, test, and deploy comprehensive end-to-end automation solutions, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), using the Power Platform.
• Consult & Analyze: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI-driven automation and translate business needs into robust technical solutions, analyzing existing processes for automation.
• Research Trends: Monitor and research emerging trends within Copilot Studio, Power Platform, and the broader enterprise AI/automation landscape to inform solution design and best practices.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within one year) from a graduate school program (master’s or equivalent or higher) OR the final academic year of a first university degree program (bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Data Visualization, Information Design, or a closely related field.
• Experience: No prior work experience is required, but academic training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should directly benefit the United Nations during the internship.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) concepts; computer literacy in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and presentations; fluency in English.
• Bonus: Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
