Thesis Intern Financial Risk Management – Actuarial | Deloitte

The Tone:
This is a thesis internship at Deloitte, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, offering flexible part-time (24-32 hours) or full-time (40 hours) work options. Deloitte’s Financial Risk Management (FRM) Actuarial team supports insurers in managing the complex risks they undertake for policyholders. The insurance sector faces continuously evolving challenges, including the adoption of digital and data-driven strategies, increasing regulatory pressures, crucial sustainability questions, and a redefining role of what it means to be an insurer. As a Thesis Intern, you will immerse yourself in these critical issues, contributing to the development of practical solutions for Deloitte’s clients while simultaneously completing your master’s thesis research. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialized expertise and make a tangible impact within a leading professional services firm.

• Pay: EUR1000 monthly
• Team: Financial Risk Management (FRM) Actuarial team of approximately 100 colleagues.
• Mission: Develop solutions for the evolving insurance world while completing a master’s thesis under intensive guidance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Thesis Completion: Write your master’s thesis with intensive guidance from a Deloitte supervisor.
• Project Contribution: Work on projects, proposals, or research for clients as part of the Financial Risk talent pool.
• Model Application: Apply your skills to existing and new quantitative models and data analysis.
• Stakeholder Communication: Translate technical results into impactful insights for various stakeholders.
• Sector Vision: Develop and communicate a strategic vision for the financial sector, focusing on insurers, pension funds, and asset managers.
• Process Optimization: Contribute to making processes more efficient within the financial sector through the deployment of AI, including automation, acceleration, and streamlining.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Final phase of a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, (Quantitative) Finance, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, or another STEM master.
• Experience: Available at least 3 days per week for a minimum of 3 months, and an interest in pursuing a career as an actuary.
• Skills: Excellent analytical skills, affinity with quantitative modeling and/or programming, strong communication skills in both Dutch and English (spoken and written), and a collaborative team player mindset.
• Bonus: A proposed thesis topic or a general interest in a research area, affinity with the financial sector, ambitious drive, and current residency in the Netherlands.
