Actuarial Trainee- 2027 Graduate Development Program | National Interstate Insurance Company

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at National Interstate Insurance Company, located in Richfield, Ohio. National Interstate, a member of Great American Insurance Group, is a leading commercial transportation insurer providing risk financing solutions across all 50 states. The company specializes in niche wheels markets through traditional insurance and innovative alternative risk transfer programs. This role is integral for an Actuarial Trainee to learn foundational actuarial techniques and procedures, contributing to the company’s operations, systems, and methodologies within its specialized transportation insurance sector.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn various actuarial techniques and procedures.
• Become familiar with company operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies.
• Update data in established pricing and reserving analyses.
• Become familiar with basic statistical techniques.
• Improve upon basic knowledge in Excel and be introduced to programming and other actuarial software.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline. This is an entry-level position.
• Experience: Generally 0 to 6 months of related experience, with preparation to sit for the 1st Actuarial Exam.
• Skills: Foundational understanding of actuarial and basic statistical techniques, proficiency in Excel, and an aptitude for learning programming and actuarial software.
• Bonus: Preferred for at least 1 actuarial exam to be passed.
