The TL;DR

• Mission: To support National Interstate’s financial operations by assisting with entry-level accounting tasks related to prepaid and fixed assets, various liabilities, and by accurately completing journal entries and account reconciliations.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Banking Support: Assist with daily banking and treasury management functions, which includes tracking cash balances across both operating and deposit accounts and meticulously recording all transfer cash activity.
• Investment Accounting: Contribute to investment accounting and reporting by precisely posting transactions and income into the designated investment accounting system.
• Reinsurance Operations: Take responsibility for completing various reinsurance reconciliations, as well as processing associated reinsurance billings and managing payments within the accounting area.
• SEC Reporting Assistance: Provide crucial support with various SEC reporting responsibilities, such as performing XBRL tagging and proofreading quarterly 10-Q documents and earnings releases.
• Statutory Reporting: Aid in the preparation and submission of statutory loss reporting (specifically Part 3 Loss and Expense Reserves Schedule) and statutory investment reporting (Schedule DA) for one of the four statutory insurance companies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, actively pursuing a degree in Accounting. This role is designed for entry-level candidates.
• Experience: An anticipated graduation date falling between Fall/Winter 2027 and Spring 2028 is required, indicating the candidate is in the appropriate stage of their academic career.
• Skills: Ability to effectively perform entry-level accounting tasks, including accurately processing journal entries and conducting thorough account reconciliations. Demonstrated capability in tracking financial data for banking, treasury, and investment functions. Foundational understanding of financial reporting concepts relevant to SEC and statutory requirements is also desirable.
