Intern, Accounting | Encova Insurance

The Tone:
This is a full-time summer internship at Encova Insurance, offering a hybrid schedule in either the Columbus, Ohio or Charleston, West Virginia office for the 2027 summer. This role is crucial for providing valuable hands-on experience within a corporate accounting department, where interns will contribute to key tasks and projects while developing an understanding of statutory insurance and other accounting disciplines. Interns will work alongside Encova associates as part of a dynamic, results-driven team, learning to manage real-world situations.

• Team: Within the accounting organization, reporting to the AVP, Financial Reporting & Investments or the AVP, Finance, Operations and Tax.
• Mission: To gain valuable experience within a corporate accounting department, develop an understanding of statutory insurance and other accounting disciplines, and assist in performing key team tasks and project work aligned with department strategic priorities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (advanced capabilities)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Operations Support: Assist with a range of daily, monthly, and/or quarterly accounting tasks, including processing journal entries, generating and analyzing financial reports, and performing various reconciliations.
• Compliance and Tax Activities: Support tax or compliance-related activities and manage accounts payable functions as needed within the accounting department.
• Strategic Project Contribution: Contribute to cross-functional project initiatives that align with the Accounting department’s strategic goals and priorities.
• Intern Program Engagement: Actively participate in company-wide intern program activities, fostering professional development and networking opportunities.
• Operational Coverage: Provide temporary backup support for team members who are on vacation, ensuring continuous operation of essential functions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have successfully completed at least 60 credit hours prior to the internship start date, with foundational coursework in basic accounting disciplines.
• Experience: Requires advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, demonstrated through the ability to create pivot tables, perform VLOOKUP functions, and utilize other advanced formulas for data analysis and reporting.
• Skills: Possess the capability to work independently and exhibit strong problem-solving aptitude, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective team collaboration and reporting.
