The Tone:
This is a hybrid position at the University of Minnesota, based on the Twin Cities campus with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Occasional travel to the Twin Cities campus may be required for events and all-staff meetings for candidates located near other UMN system campuses or across Minnesota, and out-of-state candidates must relocate at their own expense. The University of Minnesota is a large public research university, recognized for its strong company culture and employee appreciation. This role supports the Financial Operations Center within the Controller’s Office by performing essential accounting activities and financial reporting for various Resource Responsibility Centers, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

• Mission: Perform basic accounting activities and financial reporting transactions in support of a portfolio of Resource Responsibility Centers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Operations: Collaborate with finance staff to ensure accurate and reasonable accounting period closings, reviewing reports to identify and resolve simple errors.
• Policy Interpretation: Explain, interpret, and apply University accounting policies and procedures to daily tasks and transactions.
• Transaction Processing: Prepare analyses, computations, and enter journal entries into EFS, processing requests for ledger/fund analyses and corrections.
• Payroll Administration: Process payroll accounting transactions, including mass requests for new hires and modified appointments, based on provided information.
• Financial Support: Generate and review financial data to ensure compliance and consistency, assisting with the analysis of activity impact on Resource Responsibility Centers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of related education and work experience equal to four years.
• Experience: Experience harmonizing with standard technology platforms for word processing, data entry, email, and internet browsing.
• Skills: Ability to read, interpret, and compile information according to prescribed methods. Professionalism, attentiveness, and strong verbal and written communication.
• Bonus: Knowledge of university policies and accounting procedures.
