Job Description:

This is a Pharmacy Intern position at University of Utah Health. The intern will perform all essential functions of a pharmacist, but under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This is a structured program designed for the intern’s professional development.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the responsibilities and requirements:

Progression of Responsibilities: The internship begins with technical functions within the pharmacy and gradually progresses to higher-level pharmacy functions as the intern advances in their pharmacy education.
Essential Functions: The intern will perform the essential functions of both Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Technician II.
Problem Solving: The intern will receive training to solve problems related to the medication use process for both patients and the organization.
Quality Improvement: The intern will identify and participate in organizational and departmental quality improvement activities aimed at improving patient care, the medication use process, and pharmacy operations.
Medication Use Process: Interns will train to assume responsibility for the medication use process, ensuring adherence to medication use policies and all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to pharmacy practice.
Drug Information: The intern will learn to effectively assess appropriate drug information and literature resources to provide clear and accurate information to various audiences, including patients, other healthcare professionals, and peers.
Qualifications:
• Must be fully matriculated and accepted into a College of Pharmacy.
• Must possess a current Utah State Pharmacy Intern Licensure *or• a current Temporary Pharmacist License issued through the State of Utah. Additional licenses may be required depending on the hiring department.
• A second or third-year intern is preferred.
