This is a temporary seasonal internship at the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) in Wilberforce, OH. Housing is not available. The internship is an NTE (Not-to-Exceed) 1039 hours appointment.

Job Duties:

Major duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provides front line information and interpretive services for visitors in the daily operation of the site.
• Operate the visitor center desk and cooperative store area.
• Give pre-created interpretive tours of the resource.
• Provide customer service to visitors and colleagues.
• Explain the significance of an area’s natural, cultural, historic, or other resources.

Grade Levels:

• GS-4: Guides groups (of up to 20 people)
• GS-5: Guides groups (of up to 50 people)

Requirements & Conditions of Employment:

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
• DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
• PATHWAYS AGREEMENT: Pathways participant agreement is required.
• DRIVER’S LICENSE: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
• UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
• WORK SCHEDULE: Weekends, Evenings, Holidays, and overtime may be required.
• TRAVEL: You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
• GOVERNMENT CHARGE CARD: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
• Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/18/2025.

To Be Eligible For This Pathway Position You Must:

• Be enrolled in a degree seeking program
• Be enrolled on one half (1/2) time basis
• Have a minimum 2.0 grade average
• Attending an accredited educational institution
• Provide transcripts with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
• Be enrolled for the next semester/quarter following the period of this vacancy.

GS-4 Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of General Experience and six (6) months of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 level. Specialized Experience involves oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups.
OR EDUCATION: Completion of at least two years of education above high school (60 semester hour or 90 quarter hours) which included at least 12 semester hours of directly related courses.
OR COMBINATION: Equivalent combination of education and experience.

GS-5 Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-04. Specialized Experience involves oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups.
OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with courses related to American history, science and/or public speaking.
OR COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

• This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

• If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Agreement which specifies the conditions of your employment as we’ve indicated in this job announcement.

• Physical Demands: The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs

• Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
