Job Description: Construction Intern – Beaufort
This internship provides hands-on experience in road construction for construction management students. Interns gain a realistic understanding of the industry through diverse responsibilities.
Key Duties:
• Project Management Support: Assisting the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, file management (including submittals, RFIs, and change orders), and progress reporting.
• Field Work: Collaborating with field supervision on project layout, setting control lines, surveying, construction drawing and trade coordination, verifying field conditions, and quality control.
Qualifications:
• Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in PC skills, especially Excel, Primavera, and SAP software. Familiarity with construction industry practices is preferred, but previous internship experience is not required.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with job site supervisors and colleagues.
• Physical Demands: Ability to regularly sit and/or stand for at least eight hours, occasionally stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb. Must be able to frequently lift and carry 50-90 pounds. Requires continuous mental attention. Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and noise is expected. Work at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the use of ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers, is also required. Ability to work on uneven surfaces in various weather conditions is necessary. A flexible schedule is needed based on project demands.
• Work Environment: Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to high noise levels, grease, and dust. Work is regularly performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery, and exposure to various construction site substances (form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mix concrete) is expected.
