The Tone:
This is an internship at Eagle Eye Networks, located in Austin, Texas. The company is a leader in cloud-based video surveillance, and along with Brivo, forms a united platform for cloud-based access control and video surveillance. Their mission is to make physical spaces safer, smarter, and more autonomous through AI and intelligent systems. This internship is focused on the pivotal Clip Service initiative, which aims to improve how customers save, manage, and interact with surveillance video beyond standard retention periods. The intern will be instrumental in building and integrating both backend services and user-facing tools, enabling operators to seamlessly create, search, and view video clips directly from the timeline. This role offers invaluable hands-on experience with existing video archiving systems, data models, and storage solutions, extending APIs, supporting complex video extraction, and enhancing playback and search functionality across web applications, providing a comprehensive understanding of a live production system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Service Development: Develop and integrate services to support the creation, retention, and playback of video clips for customers.
• Data Management: Work with backend APIs and data models specifically designed to manage archived video and associated clip metadata.
• Application Enhancement: Support updates and improvements to critical web applications, including the History Browser and the Clip Management interfaces.
• Workflow Implementation: Implement and test workflows for extracting and persisting diverse video assets, such as still images, specific video segments, and their metadata.
• System Improvement: Collaborate with experienced engineers to enhance system usability, performance, and internal development workflows.
• Quality Assurance: Actively participate in code reviews, debugging efforts, and documentation processes to ensure the stability and robustness of the production system.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student with an academic background or relevant coursework in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field.
• Technical Experience: Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or JavaScript, along with concepts in video processing and streaming. Demonstrated interest in backend systems, distributed services, or video/data pipelines.
• System Understanding: Moderate understanding of web applications, APIs, and data-driven systems. Comfort working within a collaborative development environment and utilizing version control systems like Git.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, a strong desire to work effectively as part of a team, good problem-solving skills, and a keen attention to detail.
