About the Company:

Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) is offering a short-term internship opportunity for college students interested in theater and music education or arts management. The internship is connected to their Broadway Intensive and Broadway Academy summer camps. DMPA is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Job Description:

This is a seasonal internship running for approximately nine to ten days in July 2025, specifically the week of July 14-19, with training either July 2-4 or July 8-10. Interns will work 40+ hours that week. The pay rate is $16.00 per hour, with overtime pay included. Two internship positions are available.

The internship involves supporting Broadway professionals who are teaching middle and high school students in musical theater performance camps. Responsibilities include:

Supporting camp faculty: Assisting in the execution of the camps.
Tracking student assignments: Monitoring and managing student solo assignments.
Backstage assistance: Providing support during student performances.
Sound equipment operation: Running sound equipment during rehearsals.
Charting blocking: Documenting and organizing stage movements.
Rehearsal assistance: Helping with dance and music rehearsals.
Supervision: Overseeing student lunches, breaks, and transitions.
Collaboration: Working effectively with camp staff, other interns, and Broadway faculty.

Qualifications: Applicants should be current college students passionate about working with youth and the arts. While not required, preferred qualifications include experience leading theater activities, working with middle school and high school students, and experience with classroom management. Essential skills include the ability to foster teamwork, strong communication skills (both verbal and written), detail-oriented organization, professionalism, and a forward-thinking approach. Applicants should be pursuing a career in theater education, theater, music education, or arts management. A cover letter is required with the application.
