CNN Weather/Climate Intern: ATL OR NYC – Spring 2025

This internship will be located in the Atlanta or New York City area and requires regular in-office presence based on the intern manager’s schedule.

The CNN Weather and Climate department provides weather, climate, and science coverage for all CNN platforms, including on-air, digital, and written content. The department serves CNN, CNNI, CNN.com, and affiliated networks.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the production of on-air, digital, video, and written weather and climate content.
• Research weather, climate, and science-related stories and provide information to the department.
• Learn weather graphics software and build elements for on-air, digital, and video use.
• Participate in breaking weather and other related breaking news stories.
• Have the ability to record a demo reel.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Must be at least a junior level majoring in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or science-related journalism at an accredited university.
• Interested in pursuing a career in weather or climate communications.
• A self-starter who is engaged in the weather and climate media landscape.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and via video).
• Ability to identify, research, and write/produce/report scientific news and weather or climate stories.
• Avid consumer of weather and news across the scope of the media landscape (reads weather and news articles, watches TV weather and broadcast news regularly, engages with weather and news stories on digital platforms such as social media).
• Ability to break down complex scientific processes and relay them in a non-technical way through writing and reporting on camera.
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment required).
• Must be a rising junior or senior (18 years or older).
• Must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA).
• Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from Warner Bros. Discovery now or in the future. Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa, including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc., will not be eligible for the internship program.

Nice to Haves:

• Links to published work (writing portfolio, online articles, demo reel) that demonstrates writing or on-camera ability.
• Experience with weather graphic software within school courses or past internships.
• Some experience writing science-related articles in a non-academic setting.
• Previous internship experience within media, communications, TV, or weather/climate.
• Experience working at any media organizations, school newspaper, or campus TV station.

Program Details:

• Duration: 12 weeks
• Start Date: January 27th
• End Date: April 18th
• Hours: 16-24 hours per week
• Location: Atlanta or New York City (hybrid capacity)
• Compensation: Paid opportunity with a competitive hourly wage
• Credit: Not required but documentation for school credit is provided if desired.
• Relocation: Not provided.

• Interviewing will take place from October through early December.
