Rotational Development Program Trainee (Electrical Power Systems) | Pacific Gas and Electric Company

The Tone:
This is a 12-month rotational development program at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, located in San Jose, CA with hybrid work. PG&E’s Engineering, Planning, and Strategy (EP&S) organization focuses on engineering the grid of the future by integrating renewable energy sources, traditional utility infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology. This role is designed to provide engineers with meaningful experience across two departments within Electric Engineering, directly contributing to the safety, reliability, and affordability of energy delivered to customers by improving PG&E’s large network of electric transmission and distribution facilities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Contribute to the strategic planning and design of electric distribution assets, ensuring future grid stability and efficiency.
• Support the engineering and analytical efforts for transmission systems planning, focusing on grid optimization.
• Participate in specialized projects related to distributed generation within distribution planning, advancing renewable energy integration.
• Engage in distributions operations engineering tasks, enhancing grid performance, resiliency, and operational safety.
• Learn and apply principles of system protection and explore grid innovation initiatives across various engineering projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level Electrical Engineer holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• Experience: Must have received or be receiving the qualifying degree between May 2025 and July 2027. Reliable transportation for work purposes is a firm requirement.
• Skills: Proficiency in Python and SQL; Demonstrated strong communication abilities; Proven initiative and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
• Bonus: Completed advanced coursework in power emphasis, including Power Systems, Analysis, Transmission Lines, System Protection/Substations; Former internship experience with PG&E; Relevant work experience or internships within the utilities, power industry, or related power fields; EIT Certification.
