Accident Fund Insurance Company of America is actively seeking a Trainee for its Business Development/Underwriting team in Lansing, MI. • Mission: To assess risk, develop pricing solutions, support agency partners, and contribute to profitable business growth within the underwriting function.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Skill Development: Actively learn and develop essential skills and competencies through the performance of assigned duties and by becoming proficient with company systems, software, and programs.
• Risk Evaluation: Research and analyze information to determine underwriting eligibility for prospective policyholders, assess account insurability, and accept or reject accounts within delegated authority.
• Pricing Solutions: Calculate, prepare, and develop appropriate premium quotations and pricing solutions for new business, renewals, and endorsements, using corporate underwriting guidelines.
• Agency Relationships: Support and manage agency relationships, developing new business and retaining existing accounts within a given territory or region while emphasizing the benefits of workers’ compensation products.
• Problem Resolution: Collaborate with all internal departments to resolve problems, attend company meetings, provide feedback, and participate in special projects or task forces as assigned.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an Associate’s degree in a related field combined with certification (such as ARM, CPCU, AU). This is an entry-level role.
• Experience: No experience is required with proper education, though one year of relevant experience in an insurance environment or knowledge of workers’ compensation or commercial insurance is desired.
• Skills: Ability to make efficient and effective decisions, strong interpersonal skills, ability to self-motivate and work independently, excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Certification, or progress toward a certification such as ARM, CPCU, or AU, is highly preferred and encouraged. Basic knowledge of the workers’ compensation industry is also beneficial.
