Financial Analyst- Fixed Assets | Airport Minority Advisory Council

The Tone:
This is a full-time, career service role at the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), located in Chicago, IL. The CDA manages O’Hare and Midway International Airports, serving as a critical hub for global travel and commerce in the region. This position is vital for performing complex financial analysis of fiscal and cost data, specifically focusing on fixed assets. The role ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance with governmental accounting standards for significant infrastructure investments.

• Mission: Own tracking and reporting of fixed assets and capital projects to ensure accurate financial statements and compliance with accounting standards.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintain: Maintain a fixed asset register for CDA through CityWorks and accurately transmit it to the Department of Finance (DOF).
• Record: Record additions, transfers, retirements, and disposals, ensuring proper capitalization per government capitalization threshold policy.
• Calculate: Calculate and post depreciation in compliance with GASB No 34 standards.
• Track: Track Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) for capital improvement projects and coordinate capitalization upon substantial completion.
• Support: Support the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reporting (ACFR) fixed asset footnotes and schedules.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, or a directly related field.
• Experience: One (1) year of work experience in the analysis of financial records.
• Skills: Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, along with strong reconciliation, analytical, and audit-support skills.
• Bonus: Two (2) years of work experience in the analysis of financial records, familiarity with capital improvement programs (CIP) and infrastructure asset tracking, or a CPA, CGFM, or progress towards certification.
