New Grad RN Residency Program All Specialties (February 2027 Cohort) | The George Washington University Hospital

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at The George Washington University Hospital, located in Washington, DC. The hospital is a 395-bed academic medical center, recognized as a Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Comprehensive Stroke Center, known for advanced services in neurosciences, trauma, heart and vascular care, women’s health, oncology, and surgery. This role is crucial for newly licensed nurses seeking to launch their careers and transition into practice within a complex and impactful healthcare environment that educates future healthcare leaders.

The TL;DR

What You’ll Actually Do
• Practice: Provide patient care as a Registered Nurse in a Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
• Participate: Engage in a structured, one-year transition-to-practice experience combining various learning modalities.
• Train: Receive hands-on clinical training guided by a dedicated 1:1 preceptor with progressive competency goals.
• Develop: Attend monthly professional development sessions, skills labs, debriefs, and mentorship sessions with the Clinical Education team.
• Project: Complete an evidence-based practice project and deliver a graduation presentation at the program’s conclusion.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Must have passed the NCLEX before the program start.
• Experience: No prior nursing experience required beyond educational preparation; must obtain a DC RN license by the program start date.
• Skills: DC RN license; BLS (AHA or ARC) certification; minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Bonus: Prior experience as a CNA, PCT, EMT, Unit Secretary, Extern, or similar clinical role; senior practicum or rotation in a desired specialty area.
