Staff Accountant | La Jolla Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at La Jolla Group, located in Irvine, CA, requiring 3 days per week in the office. La Jolla Group is a leading apparel management company known for its proven track record in building, growing, and supporting some of the industry’s most recognized and exciting brands. This Staff Accountant role is integral to the Finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supporting crucial accounting processes across multiple brands, and contributing to the company’s overall financial health and operational efficiency. The individual in this position will play a key part in the collaborative environment, making an impact on the evolving portfolio.

• Mission: This person will ensure accurate financial records, support month-end close processes, perform detailed account reconciliations, and assist with financial reporting and compliance across the organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Closing & Accruals: Support the month-end and year-end close processes by preparing and posting journal entries, detailed accruals, schedules, and supporting workpapers for various accounts, including those related to Full Circle activity.
• Account Reconciliation & Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly reconciliations for critical balance sheet accounts such as bank accounts, credit cards, fixed assets, prepaids, and accrued expenses, investigating and resolving any reconciling items.
• General Ledger Management & Reporting: Analyze general ledger activity and account fluctuations, thoroughly research variances, and communicate findings to management; also prepare audit schedules, financial statement support, and presentation materials for financial reporting and cost center reviews.
• Tax & Compliance Coordination: Prepare sales tax reports and filings in coordination with the Company’s third-party sales tax provider, and manage renewal processes for store licenses, property taxes, gift cards, and other store-level requirements.
• Operational Accounting Support: Assist with a range of other accounting functions as needed, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, and fixed assets, while also performing ad hoc analysis and special projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required, coupled with a strong understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fundamental general ledger accounting principles.
• Experience: 1-3 years of direct accounting experience, specifically working knowledge of account reconciliations and month-end close processes is essential. Prior experience with an philanthropic/accounting system is mandatory.
• Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to utilize pivot tables, lookups, and perform complex data analysis. Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and the capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Bonus: Experience within the apparel, fashion, wholesale, or multi-brand industry is preferred. Specific working knowledge of Full Circle ERP is strongly preferred. Experience with sales tax compliance, financial reporting, or audit support will be an advantage.
