• Mission: To contribute to Marathon Petroleum’s accounting operations by performing essential tasks and developing foundational skills within the petroleum industry context.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Processing: Analyze and process various business documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Financial Analysis: Conduct analysis of accounting and financial data to prepare proper financial statement journal entries.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare general ledger account reconcilements to maintain the integrity of financial records.
• Tax Information Support: Assist in the preparation of necessary tax information for regulatory reporting.
• Control Testing: Execute testing of SOX and Non-SOX controls to support internal auditing and compliance efforts.
• Budget Assistance: Provide assistance in preparing budgets by gathering and organizing relevant financial data.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Interface with a variety of departments outside the Controller’s Organization to develop collaborative relationships.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Candidates must be concurrently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) seeking program for the duration of the experience. An Accounting major is required, though other business majors may be considered.
• Experience: No prior professional experience is required for this internship, which provides on-the-job training. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong academic performance is required. Must also be able to provide reliable transportation to and from the place of work.
• Bonus: Military experience is a plus.
