Director, Talent & Culture | Rust-Oleum
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Rust-Oleum, located in Vernon Hills, IL. As part of the RPM Consumer Group, Rust-Oleum focuses on developing strong consumer brands. This role is critical for leading the enterprise talent strategy, ensuring the organization identifies, develops, and retains key talent to strengthen leadership and overall performance across its diverse businesses. The Director will drive talent management practices that connect learning, succession planning, performance management, and leadership development across the group.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Talent Strategy: Lead the talent management strategy and roadmap, building an integrated operating model that clarifies processes, roles, and governance for the annual talent cycle.
• Succession Planning: Design and facilitate organizational and talent reviews, assessing bench strength and building succession plans for critical roles and leadership positions.
• Leadership Development: Lead development programs through the Consumer Group University (CGU) for leaders, high-potential talent, critical skill groups, and associates at all levels.
• Program Oversight: Oversee CGU learning technologies, content strategy, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring it remains accessible, scalable, and impactful.
• Stakeholder Management: Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and HR teams, manage the talent management and learning budget, and lead and coach direct reports.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, or a related field. Progressive experience in talent management, organizational development, leadership development, or human resources at a Director level.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience, including leading enterprise or multi-business talent initiatives. Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating talent reviews, succession planning, performance management, calibration, and leadership development practices. Experience advising senior leaders, leading teams, managing budgets, and overseeing vendors and complex cross-functional programs.
• Skills: Strategic and systems thinking, executive presence with the ability to influence and advise leaders, strong facilitation skills for various talent discussions, and expertise in talent assessment, succession planning, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.
• Bonus: Master’s degree preferred. Experience with Oracle talent technology preferred.
