Cost Accountant I – Operational Finance (Austin) | Turner Construction Company

• Mission: Assist with financial administration and cost accounting for projects to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Administration: Administer financial tasks and analyze data for assigned projects using company systems.
• Cost Management: Prepare, review, and audit project cost reports, learning to identify cost variances, risks, and compliance issues.
• Payment Processing: Support timely Accounts Payable transactions and review vendor invoices for accurate coding with required documentation.
• Compliance & Reconciliation: Verify subcontractor compliance and reconcile client bills against the general ledger to ensure accuracy.
• Month-End Close: Perform assigned month-end close activities, including posting journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program in Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related field of study, with a basic understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Skills: Basic understanding of GAAP; highly organized with accuracy and attention to detail; proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Bonus: Internship or co-op experience in accounting or finance; basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for financial analysis; familiarity with financial systems (e.g., SAP); demonstrated interest in cost accounting, construction finance, and/or project-based financial management.
