Staff Accountant | Vaco by Highspring

This is an individual contributor, early career role as a Staff Accountant at Vaco by Highspring. • Team: Reports to Accounting Manager, Controller, or Assistant Controller; an individual contributor role.
• Mission: Ensures the general ledger is accurate, complete, and closed on a timely basis each period.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups), Microsoft Office suite; experience with ERP or accounting systems like SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks (preferred).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post accurate journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring proper coding and complete supporting documentation.
• Account Reconciliations: Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts, promptly researching and resolving discrepancies.
• Month-End Close: Execute assigned tasks to support the timely month-end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation, within established deadlines.
• Financial Statement Assistance: Assist with the preparation of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) in accordance with GAAP.
• General Ledger Analysis: Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, identifying and communicating variances or trends to management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience: 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience, with internship experience considered for entry-level candidates.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, and lookups) and the Microsoft Office suite; strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines; effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with an ERP or accounting system (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks); CPA license or active CPA candidate; industry-specific experience; exposure to month-end close and financial statement preparation.
