Accountant/Financial Analyst | Widener University

This Accountant/Financial Analyst position is crucial for the Administration and Finance division, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the University’s financial records by managing treasury activities, executing critical journal entries, and supporting comprehensive financial reporting functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Treasury Oversight: Take responsibility for the oversight, management, and reconciliation of the University’s treasury activity, including communicating information to appropriate departments and researching transaction variances.
• Financial Reporting & Close: Assist in preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses required for both monthly and annual financial close processes, serving as a subject matter expert for various financial statement line items.
• Regulatory Compliance: Prepare various financial reports and ensure regulatory reporting compliance for the University and its affiliates, which includes assisting with employer-related tax reporting.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities, propose solutions, and collaborate with teams to implement process improvements aimed at streamlining routine accounting activities and enhancing efficiency.
• Tax Analysis & Support: Analyze employer and employee withholding tax liability accounts and provide support in generating, printing, and mailing annual 1098T’s to ensure accurate tax documentation.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; Early Career level.
• Experience: Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, along with general computer skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at multi-tasking, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and within deadlines.
• Bonus: Experience in higher education or non-profit accounting.
