Manager Trainee | J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time Manager Trainee position at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., a leading transportation and logistics company, with a requirement for flexibility in location and work shifts including nights and weekends, and potential for regional relocation. This role is foundational to ensuring the safe and timely movement of freight across various shifts, providing best-in-class customer service, and upholding strict compliance with DOT regulations. As a Manager Trainee, you will be immersed in the operational heart of the business, learning critical management functions to support drivers and optimize fleet productivity.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To learn to manage small driver counts and non-traditional shifts, ensuring the safe and timely movement of freight, maintaining DOT compliance, and delivering best-in-class customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations Management: Learn to assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements, including managing freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments.
• Relationship Building: Learn to build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set-up, minimize turnover, and maximize ongoing productivity.
• Administrative Duties: Learn to perform administrative duties such as payroll, management of the Net-Revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documenting, resolving pay issues, and analyzing P&L statements.
• Fleet Optimization: Become proficient in maximizing the efficiency and profitability of fleet operations, measuring key performance indicators, and presenting customer-specific reports and financial analysis.
• Safety & Compliance: Learn to maintain the Company’s safety culture, including daily driver safety messages, monthly driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, annual reviews, and enforcing company policies to ensure DOT compliance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field, qualifying for an entry-level career. Alternatively, a High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of equivalent experience.
• Experience: 1 year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or a related field (if applying with a High School Diploma/GED). Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations, and ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends. Willingness to regionally relocate based on account assignment.
• Skills: Ability to anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts; capacity to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions; adaptability to changing environments; and ability to meet or exceed team/driver needs and expectations.
• Bonus: Experience managing a team; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers; effective communication skills to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas; and capability to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational, operational, or process problems.
