Manager in Training Metals | Radius Recycling
The Tone:
This is a full-time, field-based development role at Radius Recycling, a company dedicated to metals recycling operations. This position offers a hands-on learning experience, preparing individuals to become future leaders by rotating through essential business functions. The role is critical for making a visible impact on daily operations, ensuring safety, and contributing to overall business results through active participation and leadership development.

• Pay: $75000–$95000 yearly
• Team: Reports to the Recycling Operations Regional General Manager, Recycling Operations General Manager, or Recycling Operations Director
• Mission: Owns learning the metals recycling business to support daily operations, manage costs, and improve results while ensuring safety and quality.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, business systems, reporting tools, operational documentation requirements
What You’ll Actually Do
• Environmental, Health & Safety: Learn and adhere to Radius Recycling’s safety and environmental expectations, helping to identify hazards, prevent incidents, and protect all personnel and property.
• Operations & Field Leadership: Collaborate with operations teams to understand daily routines, material flow, facility operations, staffing coordination, equipment use, and problem-solving.
• Commercial & Customer/Supplier Alignment: Learn how market conditions, buying, selling, freight, processing costs, material quality, and relationships impact business decisions and profit.
• Maintenance & Reliability: Understand how maintenance ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations through preventive measures, downtime response, and clear communication.
• Leadership, Communication & Continuous Improvement: Participate in coaching, team communication, meetings, and improvement projects to build readiness for leading people and solving problems.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a manager in training role focused on operations leadership.
• Experience: A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel for training and business needs are required. One or more years of scrap, manufacturing, metals recycling, or related industrial experience; or three to five years of experience in a heavy industrial environment is preferred.
• Skills: Strong communication, math, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills are essential. The role requires the ability to work under deadline pressure, analyze information, use sound judgment, and communicate professionally.
• Bonus: A working knowledge of fabrication, tools, maintenance equipment, equipment parts, repair practices, or production environments is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn business systems and reporting tools are also beneficial.
