Vice President, Financial Crime Advisory | Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), located in Düsseldorf, Germany. MUFG, one of the world’s leading financial groups, is dedicated to acting with integrity and fulfilling corporate responsibilities across its global operations. This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining robust financial crime compliance programs within MUFG Bank (Europe) N.V.’s German Financial Crime team. It ensures the bank mitigates risks associated with financial crime, protecting customer assets and adhering to regulatory standards.

• Team: Financial Crime Office (FCO) MBE, part of the MBE Compliance Division, reporting to the Head of Financial Crime Germany
• Mission: Establish and maintain effective systems and controls to protect customer assets and mitigate the risk of the bank being used to facilitate financial crime.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Advisory: Provide expert advice on financial crime matters, including the interpretation of MUFG policies and regulatory requirements.
• Regulatory Change: Lead financial crime regulatory change management activities and ensure the timely implementation of required updates to processes, controls, and documentation.
• KYC Support: Support complex Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, including assessing cases, business proposals, and approving extensions or exceptions.
• Investigations: Review complex Anti-Money Laundering (AML) investigations and determine appropriate regulatory reporting requirements.
• Sanctions Advisory: Support sanctions advisory activities, including escalations, sanctions risk assessments, and contractual clause reviews.

The Must-Haves
• Background: University-level degree in Finance, Economics, Law, or a related discipline, or completion of a recognized banking apprenticeship with equivalent additional qualifications.
• Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience within a Financial Crime function, ideally within the banking industry, or in Financial Crime Compliance, Compliance Advisory, Legal, or Risk control functions within a financial institution or professional service firm.
• Skills: High level of professional independence, strong networking and influencing abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and full professional proficiency in German.
• Bonus: An up-to-date understanding of the wider financial services industry, specifically financial crime risk issues and pertinent economic and political factors impacting the business; knowledge of the Group/MBE’s overall strategy, goals, structures, policies, operations, systems, and key strategies of FCO MBE; and the ability to keep knowledge and skills up-to-date through continuous education.
