Associate Director, Patient Engagement & Advocacy- Eastern Region | Neurocrine Biosciences
The Tone:
This is a remote role for Neurocrine Biosciences, located in the Eastern Region of the USA. Neurocrine Biosciences is a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing treatments for people with neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and immunological disorders. This role is crucial for leading patient advocacy relationships and translating patient insights into strategies that influence company programs and policies.

• Pay: $171800–$235000 yearly
• Team: Reports to the Director, Patient Engagement and Advocacy
• Mission: Lead patient advocacy relationships and engagement to ensure patient perspectives are appropriately reflected in company programs, policies, and engagement strategies.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy Development: Develop and lead the patient advocacy and engagement strategy for an assigned region, aligning with national priorities and influencing broader functional strategy through patient, caregiver, and advocacy-community insights.
• Relationship Cultivation: Establish and cultivate trusted, long-term relationships with rare disease and other priority patient advocacy stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration, education, awareness, and patient engagement.
• Cross-functional Advising: Provide patient advocacy expertise and strategic recommendations to cross-functional partners, including marketing, market access, HEOR, medical affairs, government affairs, and corporate communications, on regional and broader patient-related opportunities and risks.
• Budget Management: Manage a regional patient advocacy sponsorship budget and grant-review process, recommending resource allocation and evaluating impact based on strategic priorities and compliance.
• Initiative Leadership: Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving patient advocacy and other Neurocrine functions, establishing objectives, timelines, and measures of success while ensuring patient and caregiver perspectives are incorporated.
The Must-Haves
• Background: BS/BA degree in public health, public policy, communications, business, life sciences, social sciences, or a related field.
• Experience: 10+ years in the pharma, biotech industry, or patient advocacy, with strong experience in patient engagement, advocacy, and/or relations, including developing communications and educational resources; requires US travel 50-60%.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, high-impact initiatives across multiple disease states and stakeholder groups; ability to establish and sustain credible, mutually beneficial working relationships with patient advocacy organizations and community leaders; strong track record of developing and executing complex patient advocacy programs within established timelines, budgets, and compliance; deep expertise in patient advocacy and patient engagement, serving as an emerging internal thought leader; excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills.
• Bonus: Master’s or PhD preferred; knowledge of patient advocacy communities within neuroscience, including mental health and movement disorders.
