Job Cost Accountant (Construction) | Jobot
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Jobot, located remotely within Northern California. Jobot is representing a long-established construction services organization operating in highly regulated, project-driven environments, handling complex, large-scale infrastructure and public sector projects. This role is critical as it deeply embeds finance into day-to-day operations, ensuring projects are financially sound, compliant, and accurately reported, directly impacting cash flow and project success. The team fosters a high-visibility environment where finance partners closely with Project Management, moving beyond a traditional back-office function.

• Team: This role sits at the intersection of Project Management and Finance, serving as a primary liaison between the field and the accounting function.
• Mission: Own job cost accuracy, billing, compliance tracking, and financial coordination for multiple active projects.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Billing & Payments: Ensure timely, accurate, and complete customer billings and subcontractor payments, and review and enter job billings into the accounting system.
• Financial Oversight: Partner with Project Managers on budgets, job cost questions, AP coordination, and true-ups, tracking billings versus cost reports to identify missed or delayed revenue.
• Compliance Management: Maintain and track compliance documentation including lien releases, certified payroll, union letters, and owner-specific requirements, supporting prompt pay setup and reporting on regulated projects.
• Project Setup & Reporting: Set up jobs and import budgets from estimating systems, manage cost codes, budget adjustments, job cost reclasses, and provide ad-hoc job cost and financial reports to Project Management.
• Change Order Management: Support pricing and invoicing for extra work and change orders, and assist with collections and maintaining accurate AR data for leadership reporting.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Experience in construction accounting or job cost in a project-based environment.
• Experience: Strong understanding of billing, AR/AP, and cost tracking, with experience partnering closely with Project Managers and field teams.
• Skills: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple active projects effectively.
• Bonus: Comfort working in a regulated or compliance-heavy environment.
