Category Development Manager | Red Bull
The Tone:
This is a permanent full-time role at Red Bull, located in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Red Bull is a beverage company, and this role directly supports the development of consumer and customer-focused strategies for their products. The Category Development Manager is crucial for building and executing online and offline assortment, merchandising, pricing, and promotional strategies, ensuring Red Bull’s products drive category growth for retailers. This individual acts as an indispensable partner for retailers, using data to generate actionable insights and solutions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• CATEGORY DEVELOPMENT: Establish Red Bull as a key category management partner by building strong relationships with external retailer contacts.
• STRATEGY & EXECUTION: Oversee the development and execution of online and offline assortment optimization, new product introductions, seasonal programs, and pricing/promotional planning.
• DATA ANALYSIS & INSIGHTS: Translate complex data from various sources into impactful analytics and selling stories to identify risks, opportunities, and performance gaps, driving retail action.
• COLLABORATION: Work with Sales, Marketing, Shopper Marketing, Shopper & Consumer Insights, Brand, and eCommerce teams to establish and maintain performance management, including reporting cadences and opportunity gap analysis.
• RETAILER PARTNERSHIPS: Lead dialogues with retailers to focus on category growth opportunities, integrate with strategic business goals, and present Red Bull’s category credentials compellingly.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, or a related field preferred. Manager level, with expertise in consumer goods, retail, category management, sales analytics, or shopper insights.
• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in consumer goods, retail, category management, sales analytics, shopper insights, or syndicated data. Strong analytical skills with experience using syndicated, POS, panel, and retailer data to drive growth.
• Skills: Ability to translate complex data into clear insights, recommendations, and compelling stories, proven ability to build collaborative partnerships across customers and teams, advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and project management skills.
• Bonus: CPCM certification or Master’s degree, experience in Food Service and/or On Premise channels, experience in sales or analytical sales support including customer-facing engagement, Beverage/DSD experience, or experience with analytical tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Alteryx, or ProSpace. Travel 20-30%.
