Area Manager Intern – Summer 2027 (California), University Recruiting | Amazon
The Tone:
This is a ten-week, in-person internship during the summer of 2027, operating within one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations, or other key operations buildings across California. Amazon runs a vast global logistics network, placing you at the heart of designing, improving, and running systems that seamlessly connect people, products, and places at an immense scale. This role provides an opportunity to gain early ownership, solve real-world operational challenges, and witness the direct, visible results of your decisions as they contribute to the daily movement of millions of customer orders, keeping one of the world’s most complex supply chains moving forward.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Temporary (10 weeks, 40 hours/week)
• Location: In-person, California (multiple locations including Bakersfield, Eastvale, Fresno, Oxnard, Rialto, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Stockton, Tracy, Turlock)
• Pay: $28.84 hourly
• Team: Leads a team of 50-100 Amazon Associates, reporting to site leadership.
• Mission: To learn how to coach, motivate, and mentor a team of hourly employees in a warehouse environment, while also developing and executing a summer project in partnership with site leadership to drive operational improvements.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop Leadership Skills: Learn to effectively coach, manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team of 50-100 Amazon Associates within an operational environment, leveraging Amazon’s extensive training.
• Drive Operational Improvement: Spearhead standard work implementation and continuous improvement initiatives by developing and executing a strategic intern project in collaboration with site leadership.
• Manage Daily Operations: Oversee critical operational processes, including managing truck deliveries, coordinating package handling and sorting using tools like pallet jacks, and operating PIT equipment in applicable facilities.
• Lead Shift Cycles: Initiate shifts by leading team huddles to align associates on goals, safety priorities, and key focus areas, and conclude shifts with thorough walkthroughs and performance reviews to ensure a smooth transition for incoming teams.
• Resolve Real-time Challenges: Maintain constant presence on the operations floor to connect with your team, proactively identify and resolve issues, adjust staffing and resources dynamically, and collaborate with support teams to remove any operational roadblocks.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program, with all academic requirements anticipated to be completed between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is mandated; this role is specifically designed to provide foundational learning and development in a leadership capacity within operations.
• Skills: Possess strong communication abilities, both verbal and written, coupled with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills crucial for effective team management and collaboration.
• Bonus: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Supply Chain, Business/Management, Engineering, or other related disciplines.
