Area Manager Intern – Summer 2027 | Amazon

The Tone:
This is a ten-week, full-time internship with Amazon, located within one of its fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations, or other operations buildings across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana. Amazon Operations places you at the core of how products move from a click to a doorstep, designing and running systems that connect people, products, and places at scale. This role offers early ownership and direct impact, allowing you to solve real-world challenges and see your decisions reach customers daily, keeping one of the world’s most complex operations moving forward.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Ten-week, 40 hours per week (Summer 2027)
• Location: In-person, within Amazon operations buildings in ND, SD, NE, KS, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, IN
• Pay: $28.84 hourly
• Team: Leading a team of hourly employees and reporting to site leadership
• Mission: Learning to manage a team and developing a summer project to contribute to Amazon’s complex operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Team Leadership: Learn to coach, manage, and develop a team of 50-100 Amazon Associates in a warehouse environment.
• Project Implementation: Drive standard work and continuous improvement through an intern project developed in partnership with site leadership.
• Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, including truck deliveries, package handling, and equipment operation, ensuring smooth workflow.
• Floor Presence: Lead from the production floor, conducting team huddles, adjusting staffing and resources, and resolving issues to maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
• Performance Analysis: Review shift performance data, identify successes and areas for improvement, and provide clear handoffs to incoming managers.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level; currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with all requirements anticipated to be completed between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Experience: No prior experience required; eager to develop a collaborative leadership style within a team of hourly employees.
• Skills: Verbal and written communication; customer service; interpersonal skills; ability to operate autonomously.
• Bonus: Enrollment in a Bachelor’s program for Supply Chain, Business/Management, Engineering, or a related field.
