The Tone:
This is a full-time leadership role at Old Ironsides Construction, located in the Greater Bakersfield Area, US. Old Ironsides Construction is one of Kern County’s fastest-growing commercial General Contractors, specializing in K–12, municipal/public works, and private commercial projects executed with public-works-level rigor. This position is a critical step for the company to scale from a projected ~$8M, highly profitable 2026 run rate toward $50M+ in annual revenue, ensuring consistent quality and predictable, low-drama execution. • Team: Leads Commercial PMs, Estimator, Project Engineer; partners with Controller and field leadership; reports directly to the owner.
• Mission: Make projects boringly predictable as the company scales from a projected ~$8M toward $50M+ in annual revenue.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership & Team Management: Lead the office-side production machine, including Commercial Project Managers, the Estimator, and a Project Engineer, while partnering closely with the Controller and field leadership (Superintendents/Foremen).
• End-to-End Project Operations: Own project operations from award through closeout, encompassing meticulous management of contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, RFIs, submittals, change events, financial projections, and final closeout processes.
• Process & System Standardization: Establish Procore as the single source of truth for all project documentation, ensuring RFIs, submittals, drawings, specs, meeting minutes, change events, and correspondence are consistently current and audit-ready across all jobs.
• Compliance & Performance Monitoring: Oversee California public-works compliance, including prevailing wage and certified payroll (eBacon), drive schedule coordination with third-party schedulers, and run weekly ops/WIP huddles covering project schedules, RFIs, submittals, changes, cost reports, cash flow, and risks.
• Talent Development & Growth: Actively participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and professional leveling-up of Project Managers and Project Engineers to support the company’s expanding book of business.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Proven leader at a General Contractor managing commercial and/or public-works construction in California.
• Experience: 7+ years in commercial and/or public-works construction, including at least 3 years leading multiple projects or an operations/Project Management team for a General Contractor.
• Skills: Fluent in Procore and Bluebeam; proficient in reading contracts, managing change orders, and effectively discussing Work-in-Progress (WIP) and cost-to-complete with financial stakeholders; demonstrates direct communication, high ownership, and a talent for transforming complex operations into simple, predictable systems.
• Bonus: Public-works / certified payroll experience.
