Operations Supervisor | Central Transport

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Central Transport, recognized as one of the nation’s most reliable and technologically advanced LTL (Less-than-Truckload) carriers. The company, privately owned and operating for almost 90 years, boasts over 200 locations and is committed to continuous expansion and improvement of its operation systems, exemplified by its recent implementation of 25 next-day hubs. This Operations Supervisor position is critical for overseeing daily terminal dock operations, managing a significant team, and ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality movement of freight, directly supporting Central Transport’s record-breaking business levels and commitment to customer excellence.

• Mission: Lead and optimize a designated section of the terminal dock’s outbound operations, ensuring efficient freight handling, personnel productivity, and adherence to company standards for service excellence.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations: Direct outbound operations for a designated section of the terminal dock, overseeing the entire process from loading to proper unloading of palletized freight and managing forklift traffic.
• Management: Lead and hold accountable a team of up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel to achieve designated production schedules.
• Performance: Monitor and optimize dock production, ensuring facility Key Performance Indicator goals are consistently met or exceeded, and manage employee hours and overtime.
• Logistics: Ensure the proper loading of carriers by actively monitoring the cube and weight of trailers, maximizing efficiency and compliance.
• Compliance: Maintain a safe work environment in full compliance with state and federal DOT/OSHA standards, while also ensuring adherence to the company’s operational model and fostering a culture of product quality for internal and external customers.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This supervisory role requires experience in a transportation, cross-docking, or shipping and receiving environment.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to manage and provide leadership and accountability to a team of drivers and dock personnel.
• Skills: Essential skills include strong leadership qualities, a high aptitude for technology, the ability to multi-task effectively while maintaining detail orientation, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Prior experience specifically within the LTL industry and an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree are preferred.
