Associate Accountant, Staff | Eversource Energy

The Tone:
This is a full-time role for an Associate Staff Accountant at Eversource Energy, expected to be based in Berlin, CT, with occasional travel across MA/CT/NH as needed for emergency assignments. Eversource Energy is a large, regulated utility providing electricity and natural gas services, and this role contributes to maintaining the robust financial framework supporting its essential operations. Working under direct supervision, this position is crucial for the accurate preparation of financial data and providing vital financial support across the organization. The Associate Staff Accountant will play a key role in assisting with critical month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing various other financial responsibilities essential to Eversource’s fiscal health.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations Support: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Eversource accounting function and maintain the integrity of accounting information in the system, making adjustments as needed.
• Financial Closings: Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, including preparing journal entries, reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts, and analyzing variances.
• Statement Preparation: Prepare the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the company.
• Control Activities: Perform accounting control activities such as account reconciliations and close-out reviews, while also investigating and resolving outstanding items.
• Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate financial reports to comply with federal and state regulations (e.g., FERC Forms 1, 3Q, 60) and assist in interpreting new regulations and assigning new FERC accounts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, suitable for an Entry-Level role.
• Experience: 0 to 3 years of related accounting experience, preferably gained within a corporate and/or public accounting environment.
• Skills: Possess a strong knowledge of basic accounting theory, demonstrated proficiency in functional accounting practices and procedures, good analytical capabilities, and effective oral and written communication skills.
