The Tone:
This is an internship at the American Task Force on Lebanon, located in Washington, D.C. The American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL) is a non-sectarian and non-partisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization singularly focused on strengthening a robust U.S.-Lebanon relationship through impactful policy and advocacy efforts. This internship program provides young adults with a unique opportunity to directly engage in critical aspects of U.S. foreign policy and U.S.-Lebanon relations. Interns contribute to essential policy work spanning governance, economic recovery, security, and human development in Lebanon, operating under the leadership of President Edward M. Gabriel, former U.S. ambassador to Morocco.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Part-time (requiring a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for at least three months)
• Location: In-person, Washington, DC (requiring presence at ATFL’s office at least twice a week, including Wednesdays)
• Mission: To actively support the American Task Force on Lebanon’s core mission of advancing the U.S.-Lebanon relationship through comprehensive policy analysis, advocacy, and effective operational and communications support.
• Tech Stack: Canva (utilized for the creation of various communication materials, including social media posts and newsletters)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Data & Office Operations: Compile and organize critical data, maintain internal records, and provide assistance with various general office tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the office.
• Event Coordination: Support the logistical planning and execution of ATFL’s Annual Dinner, which includes drafting correspondence, communicating with vendors, and sorting attendee information.
• Content & Social Media: Create engaging newsletters, social media posts, and press releases, utilizing programs like Canva, and manage social media content scheduling and engagement monitoring.
• Policy Research & Analysis: Monitor current developments in U.S. foreign policy, Lebanon, and the broader Middle East region, then analyze their implications for the U.S.-Lebanon relationship.
• Legislative Tracking & Engagement: Monitor and summarize relevant Congressional legislation, track the progress of bills through the legislative process, and attend congressional hearings, briefings, and other policy-related events.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a current undergraduate student, graduate student, or a recent graduate, with studies in a relevant field such as International Relations/Affairs, Political Science, Government, or Middle Eastern Studies.
• Experience: Ability to commit at least 15 hours per week for a minimum duration of three months, working from ATFL’s office in Washington, D.C. at least twice weekly.
• Skills: Familiarity with U.S. foreign policy, Lebanon, and the Middle East is essential for this role.
• Bonus: For Program and Operations, applicants should be highly organized and detail-oriented; for Communications, proficiency in social media and basic graphic design skills is preferred; for Government Affairs, basic knowledge of the legislative and executive branches of government is a plus.
