Fall Community Engagement Intern | Autism Speaks

The Tone:
This is an internship at Autism Speaks, located in Remote, Washington, DC. Our Mid-Atlantic team is dedicated to providing a hands-on opportunity for students eager to explore a career within the nonprofit sector. This role is pivotal in supporting our community engagement efforts, fundraising initiatives, participant outreach strategies, and corporate communication, particularly as you work closely on the Baltimore Empower Walk & 5k. Your contribution will be vital to the success of this key event, requiring attention to detail and timely task completion within deadlines.

The TL;DR

• Team: Autism Speaks Mid-Atlantic Chapter community engagement team
• Mission: Support the Mid-Atlantic team in community engagement, fundraising, and participant outreach for the Baltimore Empower Walk & 5k.
• Tech Stack: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Social Media

What You’ll Actually Do
• Sponsorship Research: Research prospects for sponsorship and corporate event support.
• Community Outreach: Conduct outreach to local community organizations, social media groups, and influencers.
• Social Media Strategy: Create and execute social media plans.
• Constituent Engagement: Perform community outreach for potential event and campaign sponsors, volunteers, and constituents.
• Participant Service: Provide customer service to local event participants.
• Team Follow-up: Engage with lapsed past teams and follow up with current teams of our local events.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student interns must be eligible for academic credit (graduate or undergraduate) sponsored by an accredited institution or require experience for a college degree certification.
• Experience: Willingness to learn about fundraising, event management, and donor outreach within a nonprofit context, gaining practical experience through a 12-week program.
• Skills:
• Organizational Acumen: Possess strong organizational skills, diligent follow-up capabilities, and keen attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Communication: Exhibit good communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as various Social Media platforms for content creation and outreach.
• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities when engaging with event participants and community members.
• Initiative & Problem-Solving: Show initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
