Director of Development | Dream for America

The Tone:
This is an early career leadership role at Dream for America, a 501(c)(3) national youth movement operating remotely across the United States. Dream for America, founded by a then 16-year-old, is dedicated to educating and empowering the next generation of leaders to defend democracy, fight fascism, and strengthen liberal values and American institutions. The organization has rapidly grown to over 20,000 grassroots donors, a 2,000-person volunteer network in all 50 states, and a substantial social media presence with 800,000 followers and 1 billion impressions. As Director of Development, you will be instrumental in building the financial foundation to sustain this growth and achieve DFA’s mission of equipping millions of young people with the tools to participate meaningfully in democracy and shape the future of our nation. Your work will directly enable Dream for America to expand its programs, initiate conversations, empower informed civic and cultural engagement, and strengthen its pro-democracy grassroots network both online and on-campuses.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To lead Dream for America’s fundraising strategy, cultivating donors, pursuing grants, managing campaigns, and building essential long-term resources for organizational growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy: Develop, implement, and lead Dream for America’s comprehensive fundraising strategy.
• Donors: Cultivate and manage relationships with individual and institutional donors to secure financial support.
• Grants: Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities from foundations and organizations to fund DFA’s initiatives.
• Campaigns: Plan, execute, and oversee fundraising campaigns, events, and appeals from start to finish.
• Resources: Build and sustain the long-term financial and non-financial resources required to support and grow the organization’s work nationally.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career individuals, including motivated high school and college students, and driven young leaders.
• Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in the fields of politics or advocacy.
• Skills: Proficiency in fundraising strategy development, donor cultivation and relationship management, grant research and proposal writing, campaign planning and execution, and building long-term organizational resources.
