Litigation Docket Clerk | Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP
The Tone:
This is a hybrid position for a Litigation Docket Clerk at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, with flexibility to work from any of their designated offices including Boston, Century City, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Silicon Valley (Palo Alto), or Washington D.C. This role is crucial for providing firmwide support to the litigation practice, acting as an integral team member by managing the intricate system of court deadlines and legal procedures. • Mission: To ensure litigation lawyers and staff have accurate, up-to-date information on court deadlines and procedures for compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintenance: Maintain the firm’s docket system for litigation lawyers practicing in various courts and jurisdictions.
• Information Gathering: Obtain filing information from court clerks and online dockets.
• Calendar Preparation: Identify pertinent deadlines and prepare master calendars of due dates for distribution to lawyers and staff.
• Research: Research questions from attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries regarding deadlines, calculations of deadlines, and local rules.
• Support: Respond to requests concerning calendared events, pleadings, court procedures, and modifications to compliance dates on the docket calendar.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates should possess a fundamental understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures, encompassing the complex requirements for processing pleadings.
• Experience: The role seeks candidates with at least one year of relevant experience in litigation calendaring or docketing, with a preference for experience gained within a large law firm environment.
• Skills: Essential skills include excellent written and oral communication, strong proofreading capabilities, and exceptional attention to detail. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships within a team, and a proven capacity to prioritize and balance competing demands to meet deadlines effectively in a professional setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is also required, along with an ability to quickly adapt to new software programs.
• Bonus: Strong preference for familiarity with court filings and general rules of court applicable at the federal, state, and county levels. Experience with CompuLaw or other comparable docketing software is also a distinct advantage.
