Associate, Energy & Infrastructure | Liberty Mutual Investments

The Tone:

• Mission: Drive compelling, risk-adjusted returns for the Energy & Infrastructure mandate by owning the investment process, from market research and sourcing to underwriting and ongoing portfolio management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Investment Strategy: Contribute as an integral member of the E&I Equity team to invest across the broad infrastructure landscape, encompassing traditional energy, digital infrastructure, renewables, and energy transition opportunities.
• Diligence & Recommendation: Manage investment diligence from start to finish, performing comprehensive analysis to develop strong recommendations on direct investments, co-investments, and fund commitments.
• Opportunity Assessment: Effectively screen investment opportunities, identifying and succinctly communicating critical investment highlights, key risk considerations, and value-creation potential.
• Investment Committee Presentation: Lead the creation of detailed investment committee materials, including financial projections, and confidently present the team’s investment recommendations to internal committees.
• Transaction Support: Assist in the evaluation, structuring, and negotiation of economic and legal terms for transactions, ensuring successful execution and adherence to the E&I mandate.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from a leading institution, combined with 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Candidates should have a background in infrastructure or private equity investing, investment banking, or consulting.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to underwrite direct or co-investments, including identifying and evaluating transaction risks, value-creation opportunities, and effective risk mitigation strategies.
• Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to make investment recommendations and address questions from an investment committee. Strong interpersonal skills, fostering a collaborative, team-based environment with consensus decision-making. Detail-oriented, accurate, and capable of consistently producing high-quality work product while managing multiple responsibilities and time-sensitive deliverables. Strong AI literacy, with the ability to use AI-enabled tools to enhance speed, accuracy, and insight generation while maintaining sound judgment and compliance. A passion for investing and a strong interest in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
