Junior Analyst – Client Services | StepStone Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time, 16-week opportunity at StepStone Group, with the possibility to extend or transition into a permanent role, supporting Real Estate operations with teams located in La Jolla, CA and Cleveland, OH. StepStone is a global private markets specialist that delivers tailored investment solutions, advisory services, and data-driven insights to the world’s investors. This role is crucial for college graduates to gain exposure to the private markets while developing strong technical skills in data analytics and business intelligence, directly supporting investment monitoring and reporting efforts.

• Team: Portfolio Analytics and Reporting (“SPAR”) team supporting Real Estate operations
• Mission: Support investment monitoring and reporting by collecting, validating, and analyzing complex private markets data for internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Tech Stack: Python, Power BI, SQL, Excel, pandas, NumPy, DAX
What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Coordination: Collect, process, and validate investment data from General Partners, communicating directly with external stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Dashboard Development: Design and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable visualizations for internal and client reporting.
• Workflow Automation: Use Python (pandas, NumPy) to clean, transform, and analyze large datasets, automating processing and reporting workflows to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Collaborative Reporting: Partner with internal teams to deliver high-quality, data-driven insights and support the development of standardized reporting frameworks and templates.
• Performance Analysis: Analyze fund and portfolio performance trends across sectors and geographies, supporting ad hoc data analysis and assisting in enhancing internal analytics tools.
The Must-Haves
• Background: College graduate looking to gain exposure to the private markets industry and develop strong technical skills in data analytics and business intelligence.
• Experience: Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, transformation, and automation; advanced experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and dashboard development; working knowledge of SQL and Excel; experience working with large, complex, or multi-source datasets.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and external stakeholders; strong written and verbal communication skills in English; team-oriented mindset with a proactive, self-starter approach.
• Bonus: Exposure to financial data, private markets, or investment reporting; experience building automated reporting workflows or end-to-end data pipelines; familiarity with data validation, reconciliation, or audit processes.
