The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at American Heart Association, located hybrid in Sacramento, CA. Since its founding in 1924, the American Heart Association has significantly reduced cardiovascular disease deaths and continues its mission to overcome today’s biggest health challenges, striving for a healthier future for all. This role offers college students an opportunity for hands-on experience within a non-profit, voluntary health organization, contributing directly to life-saving initiatives. The intern will join the Development Team to support their Heart Walk campaigns, playing a key role in driving event success and maximizing participant engagement to further the Association’s impact. The application window is expected to close on July 17, 2026, for an internship duration from September 8, 2026, to December 11, 2026.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Fundraising Support: Assist with the development and implementation of fundraising activities and provide administrative support for the Sacramento/Stockton-Modesto market.
• Campaign Engagement: Work with staff and volunteers to support Heart Walk campaigns, focusing on increasing participation and engagement for Sacramento and Stockton-Modesto Heart & Stroke Walk events.
• Donor & Volunteer Outreach: Conduct external visits, calls, and emails to recruit, engage, manage, and steward current and prospective donors and volunteers.
• Marketing Material Creation: Support the development and updating of marketing materials for campaigns, including save the dates, invitations, social media posts, and other collateral.
• Prospect Research: Conduct prospect research to generate new leads and compile information for fundraising campaigns.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in business, communications, nonprofit management, or event management.
• Experience: Comfortable with outreach via phone calls and emails to current and prospective participants; demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications; experience or interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
• Skills: Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and strong proficiency in Canva; ability to manage multiple priorities involving multiple entities; minimum availability of 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday between 8:30 am and 5 pm; reliable WiFi connection and reliable transportation.
