Fundraising and Outreach Intern | Democracy Now! Productions

The Tone:
This is a temporary, part-time internship at Democracy Now! Productions, located in New York City. Democracy Now! is a non-profit independent news program that provides vital journalism to a broad public audience. This role offers an exciting opportunity within a supportive environment in the Development Department to learn the fundamentals of non-profit fundraising. Interns will gain entry-level skills and experience, directly contributing to planning and implementing fundraising goals, stewarding donors, and engaging with viewers and listeners, which is essential for the healthy functioning and outreach of the organization and prepares participants for full-time non-profit roles.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Engagement: Engage directly with Democracy Now! audience members and donors, managing correspondence and inquiries through email and telephone.
• Data Management: Accurately enter gift data and meticulously maintain donor relationship information within the CiviCRM database.
• Donor Services: Efficiently process and fulfill donor thank you gift requests to acknowledge contributions.
• Research Support: Provide valuable assistance with comprehensive donor and prospect research to identify potential supporters.
• Event Coordination: Actively support the development team in the strategic planning and seamless execution of various special events.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This internship is designed for students, individuals early in their careers, or career changers. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A key requirement is a foundational knowledge of Democracy Now! and a genuine commitment to its mission. Authorization to work in the US is also mandatory.
• Experience: No specific years of prior experience are required for this entry-level role.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong writing and organizational skills are essential for success in this position.
• Bonus: Familiarity with MS Word and Excel or Google Workspace is a plus. Attention to detail and strong customer service skills are also beneficial.
