Economic Empowerment Intern | World Relief
The Tone:
This is an unpaid internship at World Relief, located in Upstate SC. World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization that has partnered with local churches and communities for 80 years across 100 countries to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the economic self-sufficiency of refugees and immigrants, providing hands-on support in workforce development and refugee resettlement services. By standing up for the rights of the vulnerable and speaking out for the marginalized, this intern will make a real and tangible difference in the lives of resilient community members.

• Team: Economic Empowerment team, supervised by Economic Empowerment Specialists
• Mission: Walk alongside refugees and immigrants on their path toward economic self-sufficiency.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Job Readiness: Assist staff with job readiness activities, including resume development, application completion, and interview preparation for clients.
• Client Resource Navigation: Support clients through the job search process and connect them to vital community resources that aid job retention and long-term advancement.
• Data and Record Keeping: Help maintain accurate client records, files, and data entry within program management systems to ensure compliance and effective service delivery.
• Program Support: Prepare necessary materials and provide comprehensive logistical assistance for workshops, orientations, and training sessions that prepare clients for the U.S. workforce.
• Administrative & Communication: Coordinate schedules, appointments, and communications with clients, and perform general administrative duties to support overall program operations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional or student seeking practical experience in humanitarian aid, social work, or a related field. A strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief is essential, embracing a compassionate and client-centered approach.
• Experience: Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize new databases and case management systems for client support and record management.
• Skills: Strong cross-cultural competency and a deep sensitivity to the unique experiences of refugees and immigrants. Clear verbal and written communication skills are necessary, complemented by strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required for daily tasks.
• Bonus: High school diploma or a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Fluency in additional languages such as Spanish, Swahili, Rohingya, or Arabic.
