Management and Program Analyst | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

The Tone:
This is a Recent Graduate appointment in the Pathways Program at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, offered across multiple locations including Ashburn, VA, Boston, MA, and Washington, DC. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the sole organization responsible for securing the nation’s borders, preventing terrorism, and enforcing trade and travel regulations. This role is crucial in supporting department-wide mission and administrative programs, allowing selected individuals to gain foundational experience leading to a potential competitive civil service career in the Federal government.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Administer daily operations of Office of Trade programs by providing essential program management assistance.
• Facilitate program delivery and collaboration by supporting project leaders and coordinating with internal staff and external partners.
• Assess progress towards program goals and objectives using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
• Identify trends, evaluate performance metrics, and forecast potential outcomes through detailed data analysis.
• Draft or contribute to various written products, including status reports, briefings, and presentations, for internal and external stakeholders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: U.S. Citizen. Completed a qualifying associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate within the previous two years (or six years for veterans due to military service obligation). Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Experience:
• For GS-07: One year of specialized experience supporting program operations, reviewing submissions for completeness, collecting/organizing data, using standard office tools, and drafting routine reports OR successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education OR Superior Academic Achievement.
• For GS-09: One year of specialized experience coordinating mission or administrative programs, applying basic qualitative and quantitative methods, maintaining program data, reviewing submissions for compliance, and drafting briefings/reports OR completed two or more years of full-time graduate education or a Master’s (or higher) degree or an LL.B. or J.D.
• Skills: Qualitative and quantitative methods, data analysis, program coordination, report writing, proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, or dashboards.
