Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship | Walgreens

The TL;DR

• Mission: Assist the pharmacist in all aspects of pharmacy practice, provide exceptional patient care, and ensure efficient prescription processing for patients and customers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Patient Engagement: Greet customers and patients, offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Customer Relationship Building: Model and share customer service best practices, focusing on interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits to develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
• Prescription Processing & Workflow: Utilize pharmacy systems to accurately enter patient and drug information, fill prescriptions by counting and verifying medications, and assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Operational Compliance: Adhere to state, federal, and company policies, including the Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing, immediately reporting any prescription errors.
• Inventory & Clerical Support: Process manual claims for third-party programs, manage inventory activities like ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals, and handle telephone calls not requiring pharmacist attention.
• Clinical & Community Support: Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including sample collection, and support outreach to the local medical community to enhance growth opportunities.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Others. This role serves as an entry point to a healthcare career, offering an earn-while-you-learn Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP & Department of Labor. Candidates will be guided towards becoming a PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician.
• Experience: No prior experience working in pharmacies is required, as Walgreens provides comprehensive training. A preference is given for six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Skills: Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English; requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Strong math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications, are preferred.
• Bonus: Prior work experience with Walgreens, good computer skills, knowledge of store inventory control techniques, and current PTCB certification are all preferred qualifications.
