Operations Intern | Central Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc.

The Tone:
This is an internship / early career role at Central Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc., located in Central Texas. The Cooperative is dedicated to building, maintaining, and repairing the electrical system that reliably serves its community. This role is crucial for supporting the frontline linemen, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the electrical grid, and directly contributing to reliable power service for customers.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Early Career
• Type: Part-time (less than 30 hours per week, flexible hours Mon-Fri, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
• Location: In-person, Central Texas

• Team: Reports to the District Operations Supervisor or Foreman
• Mission: Assist linemen and other line personnel in the construction, maintenance, service, and repair of the electrical system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Provide direct assistance to linemen, as instructed, in the preparation, construction, replacement, and ongoing maintenance of electric distribution lines, structures, and associated equipment.
• Manual Labor: Execute various manual labor tasks such as assisting in the digging and tamping of pole holes, the cleaning of vehicles, and the loading of necessary materials.
• Operational Readiness: Proactively anticipate linemen’s needs and ensure they are consistently supplied with the proper tools, equipment, and materials required for their tasks.
• Equipment Management: Account for and ensure all tools, equipment, and unused materials are diligently returned and correctly replaced on the line truck following the completion of each job or the day’s work.
• Safety Compliance: Uphold a high standard of safety by ensuring full compliance with all Cooperative safety rules, established policies, and defined procedures at all times.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level position; a high school diploma or equivalency is required.
• Experience: No prior experience or specific job knowledge is necessary for candidates applying to this role.
• Skills:
• Possess a valid Texas driver’s license along with a documented good driving record.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms, with the general public and co-workers.
• Capable of lifting and moving 50 pounds or more, as necessary, without requiring external assistance from personnel or mechanical aids.
• Proficient in performing manual digging tasks using a pick and shovel.
• Ability to walk distances up to one mile across uneven terrain.
• Possess adequate sight to effectively assess working conditions from a safety standpoint.
