Internship, Electronic Design Engineer, Energy Engineering (Fall 2026) | Tesla
The Tone:
This is an internship at Tesla, located on-site. The company’s Energy Electrical Engineering team designs the critical electronic components, including central processing boards, communication systems, and safety circuits, for Tesla’s Vehicle & Optimus charging and residential/industrial energy storage products. This role is important because it contributes to the development and validation of these systems, helping to advance the evolving energy industry.

• Mission: To support the design, development, and validation of electronic PCBAs and system-level components for Tesla’s energy products.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design Support: Support the design of digital and analog electronic PCBAs for energy products.
• Development Support: Support the development of digital and analog electronic PCBAs for energy products.
• System Level Design: Support system-level design for energy products.
• PCBA Validation: Develop and execute test plans to validate PCBA performance.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, EMC, RF, design validation, thermal design, compliance, reliability, and manufacturing test engineers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and actively enrolled in an academic program.
• Experience: Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs; experience working with switching power supplies and LDOs, analog sense circuits, MCU and digital circuits, communications (CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, RS485), and high voltage circuits.
• Skills: Altium, LTspice, Matlab, Python; ability to support digital and analog electronic PCBA design, system-level design, and test plan development and execution.
• Bonus: Prior experience with taking leading roles in school or university extracurricular design projects and competitions.
