Intern, Operations | JFK International Air Terminal
The Tone:
This is an internship at JFK International Air Terminal, located in Jamaica, NY. JFK International Air Terminal operates a critical gateway, managing the facilities and services for a major international airport terminal. This role is vital for maintaining safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations across security checkpoints, customs, and airline check-in areas, directly enhancing the passenger experience. The intern plays a hands-on role in managing passenger flow and ensuring operational standards are met.
The TL;DR

• Type: Part-time (20-28 hours per week, 3 or 6 months)
• Location: In-person, Jamaica, NY
• Pay: $21–$22 hourly
• Mission: Ensure a safe, efficient, and customer-focused queue management operation at TSA Security Checkpoints, Customs and Border Protection, and airline check-in areas.
• Tech Stack: Computerized systems, Information Technology (IT) systems
What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage passenger queues, including social distancing, continuous flow, screening for non-ticketed passengers, and crowd control in designated areas.
• Serve as a liaison, facilitating communication and coordination with airline customers and government agencies.
• Respond to incidents and accidents, conduct necessary investigations, and prepare medical and incident reports.
• Monitor and coordinate all functions related to landside terminal operations, managing and executing daily operational plans.
• Supervise, direct, monitor daily performance, and work in coordination with outsourced contracted staff.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently enrolled and attending classes; official school schedule submission required.
• Experience: No specific years required. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, track, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, functioning effectively under stressful conditions.
• Skills: Computer competency and ability to learn new IT systems; strong administrative, written, and verbal communication skills; a proactive and self-motivating approach.
• Bonus: Juniors and Seniors are preferred; must be able to work a Saturday or Sunday per week.
