Intern | TurnUp Activism
The Tone:
This is an unpaid remote internship or volunteer opportunity at TurnUp Activism, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating across the United States. The company is dedicated to making the world more just, fair, and equitable for all by increasing youth civic engagement and activism to strengthen our democracy. TurnUp Activism believes that everyone should be able to access their civic and activist potential, having registered and turned out over 500,000 young voters since 2019. This role is designed for mission-driven young people eager to amplify youth civic engagement and participate in activism on many progressive and social justice issues, including climate change, racial justice, reproductive rights, ending gun violence, and combating voter suppression. Interns contribute directly to empowering young people, strengthening democracy in the United States, and building valuable experience for their resumes, gaining networking opportunities, and earning letters of recommendation.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate: Work collaboratively in teams with other young people to engage in grassroots activism and advocacy on a wide range of civic and social justice issues, developing democratic competency.
• Research: Conduct comprehensive research to become better educated and more aware about current progressive and social justice topics, deepening your understanding of critical issues.
• Organize: Actively join and assist with existing voter registration drives at your school, and, with organizational support and school permission, successfully initiate and perform your own peer-to-peer or drive-based registration efforts.
• Advocate: Engage in civic actions, perform targeted outreach, and collaborate on voter turnout projects designed to fight voter suppression and significantly boost youth voter turnout across the United States.
• Develop: Actively attend the TurnUp Speaker Series, contribute to civic and activism-related research and writing, and find and participate in volunteer opportunities alongside fellow interns.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Current student or young person from anywhere in the United States, driven by a mission to impact change in their community and strengthen democracy.
• Experience: A clear interest in participating in activism on progressive/social justice issues and a commitment to increasing youth civic engagement; no specific prior experience is required.
• Skills: A strong desire to cultivate and apply essential competencies such as communication, collaboration, leadership, critical thinking, and writing within a team environment.
