Definition and Reporting Structure
The Head Coach – E-Sports reports to the Athletic Director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principal.
Essential Functions
The E-Sports head coach is primarily responsible for:
- Managing the E-Sports team effectively.
- Setting team lineups for competitions and events.
- Communicating proactively with students and their families regarding team activities and expectations.
- Ensuring full compliance with all AIA (Arizona Interscholastic Association) bylaws.
- Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all student participants.
- Promoting positive teamwork, strong ethics, and excellent sportsmanship within the E-Sports program.
General Tasks and Expectations
This position encompasses various aspects including potential extended time commitments, awareness of risk injury factors, and navigating due process predicaments. It is expected that the coach will exercise common sense and sound judgment in situations not specifically covered by established guidelines or policies.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Possess a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the high school administration and ensure their consistent implementation by the entire E-Sports program staff.
- Maintain knowledge of existing system, state, and region regulations; consistently implementing them and interpreting them for both staff and athletes.
- Understand and adhere to the proper administrative line of command, referring all requests or grievances through the appropriate channels.
- Maintain discipline within the team, manage grievances professionally, and actively work to increase morale and cooperation among team members.
- Develop, organize, and supervise practices and competitions to ensure ethical participation, the safety of all present, and strict adherence to all AIA and NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) rules of the sport.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the athletic director and/or principal.
- Assist the athletic director with scheduling, providing transportation, and fulfilling requirements for tournaments and special E-Sports events.
- Assist in the necessary preparations for scheduled E-Sports events or practices.
- Advise the athletic director on recommendations pertaining to potential changes in policy related to the E-Sports program.
Qualifications
- Required Certification: A valid Arizona Teacher Certification or Substitute Certificate is mandatory.
- Preferred Employment: Employment as a teacher at the Catalina Foothills School District is preferred.
- Organizational Skills: Must possess the ability to organize and effectively supervise a comprehensive E-Sports program.
- Technical Knowledge: Should possess substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of E-Sports and continuously examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Safety Certifications: Must be current with CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Background Clearance: Must have a current IVP (Identity Verified Print) fingerprint clearance card without any restrictions.
- Driving Requirements: Must hold a valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record. The ability to drive a district vehicle (small van) to matches and serve as the supervising adult is required.
